Grover 18:1 Sta-Tite tuners
unless you want the Martin Logo on them as in they are going on a Martin then get the Grover 18:1 or the Schaller other wise you are paying $20 for the Martin Logo.

Looking for tuners for my little koa Terz. I saw these (scroll down just past the bindings and bracing) on Martin's site. Has anybody used them? How are they? Any indication as to who makes them? Do they have any Martin markings? Any info appreciated! |

Haven't used these- but you can be fairly sure that Martin doesn't make them. Both Grover and Schaller make similar 'vintage' style tuners- and I think the price is a lot less. Check StewMac and LMI. I have one set of each and they are just waiting for guitars, so I can't comment on how well they actually work. John |

Im probably breaking some taboo by actually mentioning a price, but.... For golds- Grovers are $45 at Stewmac Schallers are $44 at LMI Martin/Grover are about $20 more at Elderly... John |

Hmmm, an extra 20 bucks to have them say Martin? I think I'll try a set of Vintage-style open-back nickel Gotohs. I might prefer the 15:1 ratio over the 18:1 Grover Sta-Tites. Thanks for the info! |

Martin has had their butterbean tuners made by Gotoh for a long time. It gave them the ability to have that open back vintage look for much less than a set of Waverlys would cost. Martin played a huge roll in the success of Gotoh tuners by not only using them on their guitars, but also by selling them through their mail order catalogs through the 80s and 90s. Gotoh is making a tuner that is every bit as good as any Grover, Scheller or Waverly.....and for less money. Regards, Kevin Gallagher/Omega Guitars |

Kevin what is the model number of the Gotoh open back butter bean? I am aware of the vintage butter bean but they are cased gear tuners. |

SD 700s as well ... or SD 700X for the X finished aged look, they are great in X gold. One of my students is using a set of these, and I used the reg gold finsih a couple years back on one. |

Hi Pat... Several of us had problems with the gold colored models and the the factory will admit that. The nickel seem to be fine. The nickel were manufactured elsewhewhere and worked fine. I have since purchased the nickel without any problems. You tell me?? walter |
